Durga Puja Sponsorship for Brands: Packages, Rates and How to Book
The brand-side guide to Durga Puja — how committees actually structure packages, what each tier is worth, where to buy beyond Kolkata, the booking calendar, and the terms to insist on.

Most of what is written about Durga Puja sponsorship is written for committees — how to raise money, how to approach sponsors, how to write a proposal.
This page is the other side of the table. You have a budget and a market in eastern India, and you want to know what you can buy, what it should cost, and how not to get taken.
What you are buying into
Durga Puja is not a day. It is a five day continuous public event across a region of well over a hundred million people, with a scale of attendance that has no equivalent in Indian commercial life.
- The Bengal Durga Puja economy is estimated at around ₹65,000 crore, Kolkata contributing 65–70%
- Kolkata had 248 officially registered pandals in 2025, and several times that number unregistered
- Large pandals draw one to three lakh visitors per day during Saptami to Navami
- Visitors travel in family groups, on foot, at night, moving between pandals continuously
The behaviour matters as much as the numbers. Pandal hopping means a visitor sees ten to thirty venues over the festival, on foot, actively looking around. There is no other context in India where consumers are physically present, unhurried, in a good mood and visually attentive for that long.
How committees actually package sponsorship
Committees rarely publish a rate card. What they have is a mental hierarchy, and it is worth knowing before you negotiate.
Title sponsorship. Your name attaches to the puja itself in publicity — hoardings, the programme, announcements, press coverage. Reserved for the largest cheque, and at well known pujas frequently pre committed to a long standing sponsor. ₹2,00,000 to several crore at the marquee names.
Co sponsor or associate sponsor. Prominent placement across gate, banners and stage, without the naming right. ₹50,000 to ₹5,00,000 depending on the puja.
Category sponsorship. You are the only brand in your category present. Underused, easy to negotiate, and worth paying for if a competitor is likely to be there. Ask for it explicitly — most committees have never been asked and will agree readily.
Unit level buying. Individual positions: a gate, some banners, a stall, an LED slot. This is the bulk of the market and the sensible entry point.
In kind. Supplying prizes, water, seating, generators, printing or volunteer refreshments in exchange for branding. Frequently the best rupee for rupee deal available, and consistently overlooked by brands with a media mindset.
What each unit costs
Committees set their own prices. These are the bands we observe on listed pandals:
| Unit | Neighbourhood puja | Established puja | Well known puja | |---|---|---|---| | Main gate | ₹5,000 – ₹15,000 | ₹15,000 – ₹40,000 | ₹40,000 – ₹2,00,000 | | LED slot, full festival | ₹8,000 – ₹20,000 | ₹20,000 – ₹60,000 | ₹60,000+ | | Stall space | ₹3,000 – ₹12,000 | ₹10,000 – ₹40,000 | ₹40,000+ | | Stage backdrop, sole | ₹5,000 – ₹15,000 | ₹15,000 – ₹40,000 | ₹40,000+ | | Flex, per position | ₹1,000 – ₹4,000 | ₹3,000 – ₹12,000 | ₹8,000 – ₹30,000 | | Banner package | ₹3,000 – ₹8,000 | ₹5,000 – ₹20,000 | ₹15,000+ |
Live examples currently on PujaSathi, at an established South Kolkata puja: LED ₹30,000, main gate ₹25,000, main road pillar ₹15,000, stall ₹10,000, banner package ₹5,000, flex ₹5,000.
Full detail on each unit — sizes, artwork specs, what to verify — is in the individual guides: gates, LED, stalls, stage, flex and banners.
Do not buy only in Kolkata
Kolkata is where the fame is and where the prices reflect it. It is not always where the value is.
Howrah and the northern suburbs — very large pujas, a fraction of central Kolkata pricing, and a dense residential catchment. See our Howrah guide.
Durgapur and Asansol — industrial belt, strong purchasing power, genuinely competitive pujas, and comparatively little brand competition. Durgapur · Asansol
Siliguri and North Bengal — gateway to the northeast, growing retail base. Siliguri guide
Guwahati and Assam — large and under sold. Guwahati guide
Bengali pujas outside Bengal — Chittaranjan Park in Delhi, Powai and Lokhandwala in Mumbai, and pujas across Bengaluru draw affluent, urban Bengali audiences. For a national brand these are often the highest value Durga Puja inventory in the country and almost nobody buys them deliberately. Delhi · Mumbai · Bengaluru
The booking calendar
February to April — theme and budget planning. Approach now for title sponsorship of a large puja.
May to July — the real window. Gates and premium positions transact here. You have choice and stable pricing.
August — good inventory still available at established pujas. Prices firming.
September — premium positions largely gone at well known pujas; smaller pujas still have everything.
The final three weeks — committees with unsold space become flexible, sometimes dramatically. Real bargains, but you take what remains and artwork timelines compress. Do not plan for this, but do not ignore it either.
Artwork deadline in all cases: seven days before Shashthi, minimum. Printing and mounting both overrun.
Terms to insist on
Six clauses. Each takes one line and each prevents a specific, common failure.
- Exact position, named. "Main gate, road facing" — not "gate branding".
- Exclusivity stated. Sole or shared, in writing, before payment.
- Duration. Shashthi to Dashami, or specific dates. "Full festival" varies by committee.
- Dated installation photographs as a condition of the final payment. For LED and stage, video.
- Category exclusivity, if a competitor being present would damage the buy.
- Named contact and escalation. One person responsible, and what happens if the branding does not appear.
If you are transacting through PujaSathi, exclusivity and duration are fields on every listing, the committee balance is released against submitted evidence under the payout policy, and the proof of display standard defines what counts as evidence.
A realistic view of what you get
Do not let anyone sell you attribution here. What Durga Puja sponsorship reliably delivers:
- Local familiarity at scale — a week of repeated presence in a catchment
- Association with a trusted community institution, which is the part digital cannot buy
- Photographic content you can use for the following twelve months
- Trade and distributor goodwill, which for many categories is the real return
What it does not deliver: click level attribution, precise audience targeting, or a measurable sales lift you can isolate from the festive uplift everyone gets. Set the objective accordingly, and read how to measure festival sponsorship ROI before you set the KPI.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to sponsor a Durga Puja?
From about ₹3,000 for a banner package at a neighbourhood puja to several lakh for title sponsorship of a well known Kolkata pandal. A main gate at an established puja typically runs ₹15,000 to ₹40,000; one is currently listed at ₹25,000.
What sponsorship packages do Durga Puja committees offer?
Usually title sponsorship, co sponsorship, category exclusivity, individual unit buying such as gates and stalls, and in kind arrangements. Most committees have no printed rate card, so the tiers are negotiable.
When should I book Durga Puja sponsorship?
May to July for the October festival. Gates sell first. Title sponsorship of large pujas should be approached from February.
Is it better to sponsor a famous pandal or a local one?
Depends on the objective. Famous pandals deliver scale and prestige at high cost, and their best positions are often pre committed. Local pujas deliver a catchment you can actually serve, at a fraction of the price.
Can I get category exclusivity at a Durga Puja?
Usually yes, and it is frequently free for the asking, because most committees have never been asked. Put it in writing.
What proof should I ask for?
Dated photographs of the installed branding including wide context shots, and video for LED playback or stage announcements. Make the final payment conditional on receiving them.
Do I need to be a Bengali brand to sponsor Durga Puja?
No. Committees sell to whoever pays, and audiences do not expect sponsors to be regional. What matters is that the creative respects the occasion.
The short version
Durga Puja is the most developed festival sponsorship market in India and still an informal one. Buy units rather than packages if you are starting out, look outside central Kolkata for value, book in June and July, ask for category exclusivity because it is usually free, and make every payment conditional on photographs.
