Ganesh Utsav Sponsorship: The Complete Guide for Mandals (2027)

Ganesh Utsav is India's second-largest on-ground sponsorship market after Durga Puja — and in one important respect, it is a better product to sell.

It runs for eleven days. A Durga Puja committee sells five days of visibility. A Ganesh mandal sells up to eleven, plus a visarjan procession that moves through the city. That is more than double the exposure for the same installation cost, and most mandals never mention it in their pitch.

Ganesh Chaturthi 2027 falls on Saturday, 4 September. Your sponsor conversations should happen in May, June and July.

What makes Ganesh Utsav different

Duration. Eleven days of continuous footfall. For a brand, that is a fundamentally different value proposition from a weekend festival — and it justifies a higher price.

The visarjan procession. Your immersion procession moves through public streets, reaching enormous numbers of people who never visited your mandap. Branding on the procession vehicle, banners carried along the route, and the crowd that follows is genuinely distinct inventory. Sell it separately.

Mandal identity is strong. Established mandals in Mumbai and Pune have decades of recognition, media coverage and political attention. That legacy is commercially valuable — treat it as an asset in your pricing.

Daily aarti and cultural programmes. Eleven evenings of announcements, performances and gatherings mean repeated, high-frequency brand mentions rather than a single exposure.

Live darshan streams. Many mandals now stream aarti online. If you do, your sponsor's branding reaches a digital audience too — mention it, and price for it.

What you can sell

  • Mandap entrance / gate branding — every visitor passes it, for eleven days
  • Main stage and aarti backdrop — appears in every photo, every stream, every evening
  • Visarjan procession branding — vehicle wraps, route banners, procession boards. Your most under-sold asset.
  • Road-facing hoardings — for the queue and passers-by
  • Stall / kiosk space — eleven days of sampling is a serious offer for FMCG and food brands
  • Prasad and modak packet branding
  • Daily aarti announcements — eleven days × multiple mentions
  • Volunteer T-shirts and caps — moving branding across the whole area
  • Queue barricade panels — people stand still and read these
  • Live stream sponsorship — digital overlay during darshan broadcasts

Most mandals sell a gate banner and stop. A properly listed mandal has ten or more sellable positions.

What to charge

Indicative ranges. Small mandal ≈ 3,000–10,000 daily footfall; mid ≈ 10,000–50,000; large = a landmark Mumbai or Pune mandal drawing city-wide crowds.

  • Mandap gate branding — Small: ₹10,000–30,000 · Mid: ₹30,000–1,50,000 · Large: ₹1,50,000–15,00,000+
  • Stage / aarti backdrop — Small: ₹8,000–20,000 · Mid: ₹20,000–80,000 · Large: ₹80,000–8,00,000
  • Visarjan procession branding — ₹15,000–5,00,000 (price this properly; the reach is enormous)
  • Road hoarding — ₹5,000–50,000
  • Stall / kiosk (11 days) — ₹10,000–1,00,000
  • Queue barricade panels — ₹2,000–15,000 per panel
  • Volunteer T-shirts — ₹5,000–40,000
  • Daily aarti announcements — ₹1,000–10,000 per day
  • Live stream overlay — ₹5,000–50,000

Charge for duration. If a comparable five-day festival charges ₹25,000 for gate branding, eleven days is worth materially more — not the same price. Make the day-count explicit in your proposal.

Timing

Ganesh Chaturthi 2027 is Saturday, 4 September.

  • May–July 2027 — approach sponsors. Brands finalise festive budgets in this window.
  • August — premium positions at established mandals are typically gone.
  • September — too late.

Note the sequencing advantage: Ganesh Utsav comes before Navratri and Durga Puja. You are first in the queue for the festive budget. Use that — approach brands early and you are spending money that has not yet been committed elsewhere.

The pitch that works

  1. "Eleven days, not five." Lead with this. It is your structural advantage over every other major festival.
  2. "Plus the visarjan procession." Reach beyond your mandap, through public streets, to people who never visited.
  3. "We are first in the festive calendar." Their budget is fresh and uncommitted.
  4. "Daily aarti means daily mentions." Frequency, not just reach.

Which brands to approach

  • FMCG and food — eleven days of stall sampling is the strongest offer in Indian festival marketing
  • Consumer durables and electronics — the festive buying season opens here
  • Automotive and two-wheelers — visarjan processions and mandap displays work well
  • Banks and finance — festive scheme campaigns launch around now
  • Construction, cement and paint — strongly aligned with the Maharashtra market
  • Local retail within 2 km — always your easiest conversion

Common mistakes

  • Pricing eleven days like five. Your biggest and most common error.
  • Giving away visarjan branding. It often reaches more people than the mandap itself.
  • Ignoring the live stream. If you broadcast aarti, that is sellable digital inventory.
  • Approaching in August. Budgets are already allocated.
  • Not counting daily footfall separately. Eleven days of honest daily counts is a far stronger number than one vague total.
  • No proof photos. Photograph the branding at the mandap and during visarjan.

Frequently asked questions

How much can a mid-size mandal realistically raise?

A well-organised mandal with 10,000–50,000 daily footfall across eleven days can typically raise ₹2,00,000 to ₹15,00,000 across multiple sponsors and formats — considerably more than most mandals currently ask for.

Should we sell one big title sponsor or many smaller ones?

Usually a mix. A title sponsor for the gate and stage, plus smaller positions sold separately, maximises total revenue while still giving the lead sponsor prominence.

Is visarjan branding legally allowed?

Rules vary by municipality and change year to year, particularly around procession routes, permissions and noise. Check with your local corporation and police before committing anything to a sponsor.

What about political affiliations?

Many established mandals have political associations. Some brands are cautious about this. Be upfront early — it saves an awkward conversation later.

Do we need to be a registered trust?

Not for small local sponsorships, but registration plus a bank account and PAN makes larger corporate sponsors far more comfortable, and is usually necessary for substantial payments.
